Our First Border Crossing

On July 9, 2020 we crossed the first international border for our trip and it felt so good! Steffen and I couldn’t stop grinning as soon as we cleared the checkpoint at the Denmark border. We had done it! There was a lot of doubt due to Covid-19, then needing all the pieces to fall into place with the camper and packing the house, then our county at home got shut down again for a week due to a resurgence in Covid-19 cases just as we were getting ready to leave so more uncertainty, then the drama with the too heavy trailer and finally the dead battery. So we crossed that border holding our passports, our negative coronavirus tests and our breath.

The rain stopped, the sun came out, and we really knew that, as Charlotte said, “We’ll figure it out.” What a way to start my 41st year! With my favorite people on an epic adventure. We made it to the campground in the early afternoon. In time to settle in (which actually takes a few days), have a little birthday celebration and enjoy the gorgeous scenery.
