On Saturday morning we took a quick trip to a nearby monastery, Batalha Monastery. We had actually tried to go on Friday afternoon, but were stopped by the police at one of the intersections in town letting us know that there were strict stay-at-home orders after 1pm until Monday, January 4th. They were very kind in explaining the rule, and we turned around and headed home. On Saturday we got going a little earlier so we could make it back home by 1pm. I’m so glad we went! It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the moment you see it, you know why. The details and craftsmanship is astonishing. Well worth a visit!
